San Diego County Childhood Obesity Expert Work Group

The Greater San Diego Recreation and Parks Coalition for Health and Wellness actively participates as a member of the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Expert Work Group, as commissioned by County of San Diego Supervisors Ron Roberts and Chairwoman Pamela Slater-Price. Healthy Communities and Lifestyles in North County

The Greater San Diego Recreation and Parks Coalition for Health and Wellness is involved in an initiative formed by the County of San Diego, Health and Human Services Agency, titled Healthy Communities and Lifestyles. While focused in the North County region of San Diego County, the effort has assembled a variety of professional experts representing healthcare, governmental, and non-profit agencies for collaborative solutions for treatment and prevention of childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes along with gaining access to health care for children For more information about the initiative, please contact Beverly Tuzin M.P.H., R.D. at (760) 967-4572 or by email at beverly.tuzin@sdcounty.ca.gov.

California Park and Recreation Society

Founded in 1946, the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) was established to provide park, recreation, leisure and community service professionals with the knowledge and resources to enhance their leadership role in creating community through people, parks and programs. CPRS is a non-profit, professional and public interest organization with more than 4000 members who create community.

The Greater San Diego Recreation and Parks Coalition is a component of the CPRS. The San Diego area coalition endorses the CPRS Health and Wellness report, Leading & to Promote Health and Wellness, which states:

Parks and recreation will be known as the profession that educates the public about how they will achieve health and wellness and as the provider or partner in developing facilities and programs that support health and well-being.
